Super slim Lady Gaga, on the other hand, isn’t dieting for a role in a movie but just decided she would eat healthier and go on a gluten free and wheat free diet. Her diet consists of vegetables, chicken, and fish. She doesn’t eat a lot of potatoes and has only one serving of potato and rice in a week. She admits to having a sweet tooth but only has gluten free cookies. However, not every one is happy with her choice of diet. The National Eating Disorders Association has criticized the singer as being pro anorexia.
Other celebrities on a gluten free diet include Miley Cyrus, who states that she has allergies to both dairy and gluten. Recently, she made headlines for losing 20 pounds in weight which she said resulted from Pilates exercise and a gluten free diet. With the increasing numbers of celebs trying out gluten free diets, supermarkets and health food stores are cashing in big time. There is a hidden danger though with some gluten free products found in supermarkets today. Some wheat free breads and pitta breads can contain up to five times more fat than the regular wheat flour varieties. There is a definite need to maintain your fiber intake, so you still need to eat cereals and grains that do not contain gluten and there are plenty of them, including corn, millet, quinoa, rice, sorghum, flax, soy and tapioca. Just because you are on a gluten free diet doesn’t mean that you eat healthily. You can, and should eat fruit, vegetables, nuts, lean meat and fish to maintain a balanced diet.
