Before knowing what gluten-free means, it’s just proper to know what gluten is first. Well, gluten is a complex protein present in foods that were produced from wheat/barley/rye. This is the component that makes a dough rise. It may, likewise, be found in hair/derma products and cosmetics.
Gluten-free, on the other hand, is the opposite of gluten. This basically refers to foods that don’t contain gluten. Many people are gluten intolerant, which means that it is not safe for them to consume foods with gluten, and this is the reason why they resort to a gluten-free diet.
There is always an impression that a gluten-free diet waives the right of people who are gluten intolerant to have a good life because they have limited access to yummy foods, but this isn’t totally right. Why? It’s because this particular diet also has benefits, and they are:
- A person with celiac will be kept away from junk and sugary foods and drinks, which is actually a nice thing, right?
- A decrease in the cholesterol level.
- It can help energize the body and increase its productivity level.
- It lowers the risk of diabetes and cancer.
- Consumption of processed foods will be avoided.
The main reason why the gluten-free diet is becoming popular nowadays is the rise in the number of people being diagnosed with the disease called celiac. People with this kind of disease are prohibited to eat gluten enriched foods. If the diet is not strictly implemented, their condition will get worse.
As mentioned earlier, gluten is very much present in processed foods, and most of us are aware of it. Fruits as well as vegetables are the perfect alternative to these foods. As much as possible, starchy foods like cakes, cookies and breads should also be taken out of from the usual diet. I know that they are very tempting, but it is just right that health should be given priority than cravings.
Aside from the numerous health benefits of a gluten-free diet, it is also an effective way of losing weight. However, you have to understand that the body requires a balanced diet because, obviously, it needs to stay healthy. If you know how to incorporate the different food groups, with zero gluten, in your daily meals, then you are off to a slimmer and healthier body.
When you look at the diet, it may seem blunt because lip-smacking foods have to be forgotten, but there are still actually plenty of appetizing foods that you will get to enjoy. The list includes rice, gluten-free pasta, beans, potatoes and corn. You can use your creativity to create menus out of these foods using safe ingredients. It is also important for gluten-intolerant persons to keep in mind that you that wheat flour have a huge amount of gluten and that it should be absolutely avoided.
